Acute radiation syndrome also known as (ARS) was diagnosed in 237 people on site was confirmed in 137 cases the Chernobyl incident was a unique event it was the only accident in history of commercial nuclear power where radiation fatalities occurred. On April 25th before a routine shutdown the reactor crew at Chernobyl 4 was getting prepared for a test to determine how long the turbines would spin and supply to the circulating pumps following a loss of a main electrical power supply. The test was preformed the previous year but the power ran down to quickly so they tried a new voltage regulator design by the time the operator moved to shut down the reactor it was in a very unstable condition. =
